One of my favorite travel experiences was vacationing with my family in the Galápagos Islands. It was a long time ago, but the trip was so joyful, and we had such a lovely time that I have never forgotten it, and every trip I’ve taken since then has had to live up to it somehow.
We chartered a private yacht. There were 20 of us in our group, including friends and family. It was a moment of multiple celebrations for all of us because it was Christmas and Hanukkah at the same time, and it was also my birthday! The trip was a combination of so many fantastic things and serves as a terrific example of celebration travel at its best.
One of my favorite memories of our vacation was when my husband and a friend of ours taught the yacht’s chef how to make Hanukkah potato latkes. We also brought a Hanukkah decoration to put on top of the Christmas decoration for a day. It was fun to share our traditions and meld them together.
We spent a week exploring the Galapagos, and I still remember it as one of my favorite vacations, even though I have seen so many places all over the world since then. My daughters still talk about that trip as a highlight of their childhood, and it was a wonderful adventure for all of us.
