I have traveled all over the world, including a memorable vacation in Australia and New Zealand. However, the travel experience that stands out in my mind was an unforgettable holiday in Alberta, Canada. The towns of Banff, Jasper and Lake Louise were absolutely stunning. Equally wonderful were the hospitality and genuine warmth of the local Canadians — who also produce amazing cuisine.
Despite the warm memories of this vacation, there were some jarring moments. I was almost caught in an avalanche on the highway, but was fortunate enough to encounter emergency vehicles and workers who were able to assist. I learned to never underestimate the power of nature!
Another important lesson I’ve learned was to stay calm in a client’s hour of crisis. Being kind and helpful amidst chaos can go a long way. I was working for a corporate client when the tragedy of 9/11 occurred and found her a flight home during that traumatic time. She later wrote me to thank me for my help and grace.
As for tips for all travelers, I highly recommend always carrying copies of your passport and to always keep cash in your pocket. You never know what’s going to happen next, and it’s better to be prepared than to be caught unawares.
