Costa Rica is one of those places that is great for everyone. For families, I usually suggest doing a beach and jungle combination. Imagine awakening to the sound of howler monkeys and spotting an adorable sloth with its baby, camouflaged in a tree. Costa Rica has some great family resorts, with activities that kids love. Some families also enjoy bringing equipment or supplies to a school and setting up a visit so their kids can play soccer and talk with local kids.
For couples, there are super deluxe properties and villas that feel like personal retreats. I have one client who frequently returns to the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo on the Pacific Coast. It offers all the luxury of a Four Seasons, but immerses you in all the wonders of nature.
One recommendation I have for everyone traveling around Costa Rica is to hire a private guide. The roads are not phenomenal but the scenery is, so it’s great to have someone else do the driving. A good guide will also arrange amazing experiences you might not even think of on your own. Plus if you have a special interest, they can connect you with the right people and experiences.
With a good guide, a three-hour drive is not a chore, it’s a fun opportunity to learn. Your guide will point out wildlife and share stories about the culture and history. They might even arrange a meal at the home of a family friend along the way. I have one client who has gone back three times, and always wants the same guide.
My job is to know the best suppliers and have them know me so we can plan the right experience for you. Thanks to my personal contacts and Protravel International’s preferred supplier relationships, I can tailor a Costa Rica trip to your personal interests and get you favorable pricing and VIP treatment all along the way!
