I don’t think I could pinpoint when I started specializing in entertainment travel—it’s been a blur in the best way possible. I do remember a few central highlights though. I was originally booking travel for the Village People when sadly one of their managers passed away. The person who was responsible for everything then moved to a different company—Def Jam Recordings. I followed him there. Then, Russell Simmons sold Def Jam to Universal Music Group, and people moved to Universal Travel Agency. Through it all, I kept finding my clients in new places and finding new clients because of it.
With the constant shuffle of people from one job to the next, most of my business is through referral and retention. The goal is to be so good at this that people take you with them in their new position, and then recommend you to everyone they know. My secret to achieving this is my ability to leverage itinerary details. Whether it’s booking at the drop of a pin, the thoughtful addition of complimentary amenities, or the finer details like a bottle of cold champagne waiting when they arrive, no challenge stands in my way of a job well done.
