Corporate is nonstop action, and I love it. I handle the accounting, arranging and contracting for group space, and all the daily arrangements of individual business travelers. One of my longest standing clients, a major league baseball team, has been booking their travel with me for more than 33 years. For them, as for all my clients, I am available 24/7. They don’t use the 800 number, and when I take a vacation, I arrange for a trusted colleague to cover for me.
Weather is probably a traveler’s biggest challenge. When a hurricane or storm hits, I often have several travelers whose flights have to be rebooked. It is one of the times my clients appreciate me the most, especially when they realize that they don’t have to fight their way to a desk at the airport where tons of people are waiting on line to rebook.
One of my hairiest moments was when I was handling the travel for a team that was playing in the World Series. I had arranged for fights and hotels for every single employee, and then a horrific rain came, so the game was canceled for that day. That meant, I had to rebook every one of them to stay an additional night at a very busy time. I finally finished and went to bed at 4 a.m.! My client wasn’t at all worried throughout this. Like all my clients, they know I will do my best, no matter what life throws at us.
